uhh my last game should be a draw

It would have been intelligent to take the remaining knight (53. ... hxg4 or 53. ... Kxg4) after all - everything else insults our intelligence.
Simple rule: if hipolymer wins on time he wins and if he loses on time it should be a draw.
""If you think the rules are wrong, please suggest more 'logical' rules. "

it's simple: don't make a rule that insults the intelligence of the players. If you allow a game to continue whereby the only chance of winning is for the opposing player to make ridiculous mistakes, then you are destroying the integrity of the game"

So your contribution to make more logical rules is to say that those that already exist are ridiculous and offer no alternative. With that mentality it is possible that one day you will be president of FIDE.
Hyperbole aside, a player wins on time if a checkmate is possible. A player with a bare king (or in rare circumstances, with a knight or bishop) is unable to checkmate.

It's easy for the computer to adjudicate a KN vs. K endgame to a draw because it's *always* a draw regardless of the position of the pieces. All the computer needs to do is simply check which pieces remain. It's harder to classify KN vs. KP positions because even though the vast majority are draws or wins for the side with the pawn with reasonable play, a small subset are actually forced wins for the side with the knight (e.g. the final position Sarg0n showed).

Unless you have more complicated analysis running in real time during every game, how are you going to prevent the side with the pawn from forcing a draw by letting their clock run down when they reach one of those rare lost positions and are about to be mated? If you classify KN vs KP as at least a draw for the pawn side, what will you say to the frustrated KN players who start coming to the forums complaining about how their beautiful mating net was thwarted when their KP opponents intentionally timed out and yet somehow the game was drawn? There's no human arbiter watching our games, so we all have to make do with these small compromises for online chess. Now that you know the rules, next time you can take the knight or give up the pawn and your problem is solved!
