black to move, how to proceed from here?

hello,
this is a game i've just played. at this point i suddenly "lost the way" and didnt know what to do next. i will appreciate instructions about what should be my short-term and middle-term goals (assuming that the long-term goal is winning, of course) and how they can be best carried out. that is when the computer gives a 3 points advantage to black

please take into consideration that both me and my opponent are rated +/- 1400 and that our understanding of the game is in accordance to that. the reason i don't just give it to the computer is that it gives a solution but doesn't explain the way.

thank you very much!

erm, black is a rook up? Is this really the position you mean?

Ah ok, on second sight i realize white has a bit of play left due to some of your guys being pinned along the a4-e8 diagonal and d3-d4-d5 threatening.

In general: Untangle your pieces, get rid of the pin, become active, be happy about each trade. Find a point to put pressure on, create a weakness and capture it. Wherever you attack, he will not be able to defend being a rook down.

First move will be with the black squared bishop to connect your rooks and point the bishop towards the direction where you will attack him. 1...Bc7 with the idea of ...Qd6 and going for his king(side) is an option. Notice that 2.Rxb7 loses another rook to 2...Bh2+.

1...Bf6 pointing at the important d4 square and his queenside is nice as well due to a tactic that stockfish points out immediately. Against 2.d4 we go ...b5 3.cxb Nxd4 and black is winning. Just compare your piece activity in this position to the one in the initial position.
play g5 , f5 , h5 and take space on the kingside
(just kidding dont do that)
the advice from #2 is solid and especially the 2nd variant feels like the best play from black because d4 is very important square but dont mind this too much for now, if you dont know what to do in a position, here are some things you can think of
1. what is my worst piece? how can I improve it
2. what does the opponents want to do, how can I disrupt him
3.how can I improve my piece coordination in general
ok 3 is a bit hard (I still do it wrong all the time) but maybe it can help you. Good luck

Actually you can get rid of the pin by playing 1. ... b5!? and if white plays 2.cxb5 you go Nd4, pinning the pawn on b5 and if 3.Bxd4 Qxd4 the white bishop is attacked yet again.
I know it's not the line the computer suggests but I think it is quite interesting as well and still winning.
Bc7 is best move because of B+Q battery on dark diagonal. White can't take b7 pawn because of discovery check.
thank you all very much for your detailed answers, this is eyes opening - Bc7 and batterying with the queen, the discovered check if Rxb7, the importance of the d4 square and Bf6.

very educational!
