What was the last book you read?

@no_seigen

It is not about being smarter than everyone else, it is about people finding their own path, conducting their own research, drawing their own conclusions and reaching real truth instead of unconditionally accepting all the lies they have been taught since birth.
@Unthinkabl3 you may think you're "reaching your own conclusions" but when you speak about "generational plans" and "hordes of sheep" while telling people to "be content in your own slumber" you're essentially coming out as a conspiracy thinker who believes in things like the 'new world order'. This is about half a step removed from 19th-20th century concepts surrounding the "elders of zion" and the "jewish conspiracy".

Conspiracy thinking does not allow people to "reach the real truth" because it requires one to disregard mountains of evidence for the one single aberrant piece, and is instead of a form of tunnel blindness that rids people of their ability to look at things objectively. It is a type of thinking that requires someone to believe they are smarter than everyone else. That kind of thinking, in turn, requires someone to be less informed about the complexities of the world, because if they were well informed and did not disregard most of the things they saw as the views of the "shills", they would have to rethink most of their conceptions of the world. Thus, it is a type of intellectual insularity in which they are comforted by their own self-regard and ideas about self-superiority.

If you read any more of orwell you would see that he would disapprove heavily in this kind of thinking. His political essays call for realism and rationality in political discourse. He was a socialist anti-communist who saw the propaganda in the soviet union as a way of blinding people to real discussion- meanwhile, you may think you are above propaganda, but instead are falling right into its trap.

For conspiracy thinking is in fact what the communists were keen to do- if you read V.I. Lenin's "Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism", you will see that the communists mastered the art of deflecting blame onto the "globalists" all the way back in the early 20th C. In fact, the entire ideological basis for soviet policy from the early stages of its establishment even into the kruschev-brezhnev era was premised around a conspiracy of capitalist globalist powers controlling democratic countries like puppets. And 1984 was at its premise a criticism of communist state construction. So to believe that you are "reaching your own conclusions" is silly if you're buying into the same kind of propoganda that Orwell himself was warning about.

I guess all the former presidents were "conspiracy thinkers" too.

You should understand your opponents claims and arguments before attempting a debate, or you'll lose miserably and look like a clueless fool.

I understand that 1984 created an extensive discussion about conspiricy theories and plans which are dismissed by a lot of people. However just look at the Internet which is the perfect tool to watch and control us world wide. All users become more and more transparent. All you read or show interest for can be put together and give an almost complete picture of your person e.g. age, political preferences, your social and financial status etc. Those "tracks" we leave behind us when surfing are already used for commercial purporses/advertising. The world wide web started as a project by the Pentagon. Think about why!

Have a nice day all chess friends
