Buying a chessboard and pieces

Its about time I got a chess set, rather than playing on my 10" portable set all the time. So, I figure I will spend about £100 on one.

When it comes to board size, what is typical for a tournament? Also, if they say 16" board size, is that the width or corner to corner. And is it a measurement of the squares area or the entire piece of wood?

Thanks,

Jon
16" should be the size from corner to corner. 8 rows 2 inches per square. Although, 2.25 inches is also considered to be a "standard" size as well.
I bought a table and chairs that has a flip top. Its awesome.
One side of the flip top has the chess board on it; the other is just oak. Then underneath the flip top it has felt for a poker table.

Everything in one :O
