Good game - usage

Hey folks,

after many of my (blitz) games I pump out a "Good game", whether I loose or win doesn't matter. It's more like *handshake*.

Now whenever someone actually reacts, they say "Thanks" when they won or when they loose they never say anything at all.

Is it just crippled communication or don't I get some point? It's like everyone treats "Good game" as "Well played".
Many people don't like to talk on here, many aren't native English speakers, and many have chat turned off. I wouldn't think too hard about this.
If I know I played poorly, I can't agree saying "good game". For me that phrase is not a matter of courtesy, but of consideration. Am I wrong?
Hmm I don't know. Unless you are a Grandmaster you make mistakes in EVERY game. And I enjoy every game in a way, it can be fun to blunder all around.
If you are taking about OTB chess, I guess that some people don't like talking or are a bit grumpy after a loss
