What do circle symbols next to usernames mean?

Hi everyone, when one is looking for a potential opponent under Lobby and Correspondence, one sees 3 types of circle symbols next to the usernames: open circle, half-filled circle, and fully-filled circle. Would someone please tell me what these symbols mean? Thank you in advance for your explanation!
That should be color you are going to play if you accept the challenge: white, black or "random" (determined by server based on your and your opponent's history).
I'm quite sure it's the other way around and it's the colour your opponent wants to play with.
Thank you both for your responses. Knowing that the circles refer to color is helpful.

Actually, I'm not sure as I only pick challenges with "random" color there. But for direct challenges the sign shows the color I'm going to play so I automatically expected it's the same here. If it's the opposite, it's quite confusing.

I think it makes absolute sense because in the lobby you're not challenging anyone but seeing other player's challenges where they have (if they chose to do so) picked their colour.

I wasn't talking about me challenging other players, I was talking about the pop-up that shows when someone challenges me.

Oh, I see. I didn't think about any pop-ups at all because it seems that the person who asked was looking for opponents in the lobby and didn't challenge anyone, it wasn't about any pop-ups.

You are correct! I just started a correspondence game tonight vs. an opponent listed with a White circle. I am playing Black.

In fact, it's confusing either way, as this thread clearly indicates.

I also have no idea which color I would get, and not even the mouse-over popovers explain it.

And if it wasn't unclear enough: The things are inverted in dark mode vs. light mode.
