I definitely prefer knowing I'm going to play certain number of games, not depending on the results. Not everyone has the "american mentality" that only first place counts and nothing else matters.

It's quite a difference whether I'm guaranteed to play 9 rounds and then, in some tournaments, possibly (but unlikely) one extra tie-break game or whether I may be, with a bit of bad luck, done after one or two games.
